The Cape Fear Garden Club in Wilmington, NC, is hosting Bird Islands of the Lower Cape Fear Cruise. On May 3rd, at 1:30 pm, the Winner Cruise Queen will leave Carolina Beach Marina. Battery Island, a 100 acre Audubon Sanctuary, is the state’s largest gathering of wading birds. A large portion of herons, egrets and ibises for the state nest here and raise their young. The site is globally significant. 10% of all the white ibis come from Battery Island. All proceeds go to Audubon Society to support this special place. Tickets are $35.00 per person. They may be purchased from Wild Bird and Garden, New Hanover Center, Wilmington. Seating is limited. Professor Emeritus of UNCW’s Biological Science Dept., Dr. James Parnell; deputy Director of Audubon NC, Walker Golder; naturalist and education director for Audubon NC, Andy Woody, will all discuss wildlife seen on the cruise. Additional information may be found at www.capefeargardenclub.org. Bring your lunch and see what makes Southeastern North Carolina so special.
