The Wilmington Area Woodturners Association (WAWA) August meeting will be held at the Leland VFW Post 9408 at 1211 Village Road at 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on August 13. The meeting will feature a demonstration and class by Nick Cook, a nationally known teacher, writer, and lecturer on woodturning and a founding member of the American Association of Woodturners. His demonstration will focus on how to change the texture of wood by using a flame on the surface of pieces. The primary materials that he now uses are maple, cocobolo, and tagua nuts. He employs a variety of woods, both domestic and exotic and is known for his one-of-a-kind pieces. Nick's work is marketed in gift shops and galleries from coast to coast and is included in numerous corporate and private collections. You can also find Nick selling his pieces at craft fairs in the Southeast. A $20.00 fee will be collected at the door for this class and demonstration. Visitors are welcome.
