We will be planting about 5,000 small trees in the Phase II restoration site, 53 acres of bottomland hardwood forest. Tree species include Bald Cypress, Green Ash, Black Gum, Water Tupelo, Silky Dogwood, and an assortment of oaks.
Volunteers should come dressed for the weather and field conditions. We recommend boots of some kind, since you may get wet/muddy; knee boots or hip boots are a plus (but not required). NCCF will have all needed tools and materials, including some boots, but volunteers can also bring their own shovel and gloves. NCCF will also supply food and refreshments. Please note that there are no restroom facilities on the property. All volunteers will meet at the farm entrance (located on Highway 70, on the left, between Harker’s Island Road and Smyrna corner) at 10:00 a.m. and will drive into the farm together.
